Merry Christmas from all of us Park Rangers! Which is me, basically, but the sentiment is legit.

I’m going to keep this one a bit shorter, because on this day we’re celebrating with What Child Is This/The Holly and the Ivy from the legendary Bing Crosby. This beautiful tune feels like the sound of Christmas morning itself. Crosby lets both melodies unfold with calm assurance, gentility, and warmth. His voice carries these tunes in a steady and familiar tone, inviting you to pause and simply be present with the day.

The medley is a combination of two Victorian-era English carols, echoes of Greensleeves and the nativity in the former while the latter connects Christian symbolism to winter greenery. As such, the tune achieves a feel of transcendentalist grandeur and melodic joy.

So on Christmas Day, What Child Is This/The Holly and the Ivy feels right. Just quietly but powerfully beautiful.

And if you’ve spent any time here this season, thank you implicitly for listening along, reflecting, and sharing the joy. May your day be peaceful, warm, and full of love.
